ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility of our Assistance Dog services often varies and each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis, and is not assessed based on race, gender or religion. If you are unsure if an Assistance Dog would be suitable for you and your needs, we encourage you to reach out to us and discuss your individual circumstances.
Each of our programs requires the following eligibility to be met at a minimum:
- The applicant must be over 18 years of age (or turning 18 in the next 12 months)
- No other dog living in residence
- Can demonstrate affordability for ongoing care of the Assistance Dog
- Able to physically work with the Assistance Dog in the home environment.
We have many hundreds of success stories and current Assistance Dog partnerships around Australia; you can read about these life-changing partnerships in our case studies.
ASSISTANCE DOGS INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION
Lions Assistance Dogs are an accredited member of Assistance Dogs International (ADI) and have met the high standards set by ADI, receiving an on-site evaluation by trained assessors every five years. Assessors spend several days interviewing staff, clients, volunteers and applicants in addition to reviewing paperwork and files to make sure that all of ADI’s standards are being met.
